I'm Richard Rahn.

I've been teaching yoga, mobility, and balance for over 30 years. I owned a studio, taught thousands of classes, and thought I understood how the body ages.

Then I learned it the hard way.

A few years ago I had to step away from teaching and practicing to take care of family matters, which meant a lot of travel and time away from home. In just 18 months I lost muscle, range of motion, coordination, balance, and confidence. It happened so fast I didn't even realize it. At 40, I could have taken that time off and bounced right back. At 68, it doesn't work that way.

Rebuilding myself changed how I practice and how I teach.

What I learned

As we age, parts of us go dark, not from age alone but from how we live. Sitting, old injuries, stress, and doing the same few movements day after day all add up. The brain stops hearing from parts of the body, and those parts fade.

We call it "getting older." Mostly, it isn't.

Our body is wiser than we know. Give it the right input and it knows what to do. The movement patterns that formed you as a child are still inside you. And those same movement patterns can restore you now. You're not learning something new; you're relearning something you already know.

That's what The Practice is about: turning the lights back on.

What a class is like

  • Balance work, breathwork, yoga postures, and more, all aimed at restoring how you move.

  • Warm and unintimidating. Go at your own pace. Nobody's watching but you.

  • What you'll need: A mat if you have one, clothes you can move in and a beginner’s mindset.

  • Live on Zoom, Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays, 10am Pacific, for one hour.

Common questions

I'm stiff and out of shape. Is this for me?
Yes. You will see quickest gains.

Do I need to get down on the floor?
You can modify or scale everything we will do. I will give you options. And yes, we’ll be getting on the floor.

Are classes recorded?
Not yet. For now, The Practice is live only. Recordings are on the way.

When can I start?
Anytime. Your 30 days begin with your first class.

I have an injury or health condition. Can I still join?
Check with your doctor first, then email me. I'm happy to talk through whether The Practice is a good fit.
